Tunable White Lighting for Healthcare and Cleanroom Applications
Tunable white lighting fixtures offer the ability to adjust the color temperature of the light source. This flexible CCT (correlated color temperature) may also be referred to as variable white, dim to white or hybrid white. The terms warm and cool are frequently used when discussing the CCT of a light source. Warm lights, typically on the lower end of the Kelvin degree scale (K), are similar to candle light or the incandescent lights that were prominent for decades. These lights, which range from 1,800K to 3,000K have a yellow to orange glow that creates a warm impression. On the other end of the spectrum are the cool lights colors, which can reach 7,000K and sometimes deliver a blueish color.
As healthcare facilities renovate and update, lighting design has become an integral component of the patient and employee experience. Advances in the understanding of circadian rhythm and how light can affect healing and productivity has created demand for tunable white LED luminaires. Areas in healthcare facilities that can benefit the most from tunable features would include patient rooms, labs and exam rooms, nursing stations and critical care units.
The KURTZON™ tunable white troffers and recessed fixtures also have options to include amber light for clean space applications such as electronics and semiconductor manufacturing where light sensitive materials may be used in production. KURTZON™ also offers tunable LED luminaires with red light for vivariums where animal resting patterns are improved by the red light.
