The Haz-Lock Lines is listed by Underwriters Laboratory, in conjunction with NEC, as a suitable product for Hazardous Locations - areas where hazardous atmospheric vapors produce a potential for fire or explosion. Kurtzon Lighting’s ongoing quality assurance program and UL factory inspections assure that all fluorescent and HID Haz-Lock products meet or exceed UL specifications for Class I, Division 2 Applications. Kurtzon Lighting is the ONLY manufacturer to have UL Listed knockouts, resulting in less time for installation doing this in the field.

The years after World War II were challenging for Morris Kurtzon, as he split with his longtime partner, George Kurtzon, and took in his new son-in-law, David Koch, then just returned from the European campaigns of the U.S. Army. New ideas in lighting products were probably at an all-time peak, and the company, now Morris Kurtzon, Incorporated was moving into new areas of lighting application at an increasing rate. In 1976, the company received notice from Underwriters Laboratories that its submittal for Class 1, Division 2 Hazardous Location lighting in a recessed mounting was approved, thus creating a first for both MKI and the lighting industry. The type of demanding environment represented by Class I, Division 2 listing placed the company among the leaders in the industry. In 1994, the Haz-Lock line of fixtures produced by Kurtzon Lighting were being used by NASA and other end-users requiring fixtures for "high tech" environments.
